Character name: Wallace "Wally" West
Fandom: Young Justice (TV series)
Timeline: Season 1, episode 26
Age: 16
~*Magical*~ abilities and strengths:
Super speed; he's not quite as fast as The Flash (who can hit lightspeed) but he's still really, really fast. He can hit nearly the speed of sound without entirely pushing himself. Abilities and side effects associated with his superspeed are:

  • The ability to generate tornadoes by running quickly in a circle.

  • The ability to use superspeed and friction to make himself hot, which forces enemies to unhand him.

  • Heightened metabolism. This means he eats a lot and often, but it also means that poisons and toxins leave his system more quickly than they would for the average person.

  • Accelerated healing. He crashed through a set of glass doors while going at full speed and was completely healed up in a matter of hours. More severe injuries, like broken bones, take longer to heal.

  • The ability to use superspeed to run up walls and buildings.

  • While not necessarily associated with superspeed, Wally's agility and strength are notably above average.

  • Super-fast thinking. He can process data more quickly; his superspeed isn't restricted to just physical speed.

How would they use their abilities?: For great justice.

Appearance:

I'd say he's about average height for a sixteen-year-old. He's lean, but still somewhat muscular. He has bright red hair, green eyes, and freckles. He's somewhat pale (and his skin has this pink undertone which makes him a pain to icon sometimes). He's also very expressive and communicates with his whole body, sometimes using dramatic gestures to emphasize his point.

His superhero suit is an oh-so-subtle mustard yellow one piece suit with armor-like shoulders and red accents. His casual clothes generally consist of jeans, t-shirts, and tennis shoes.

Background/Personality:

Background:

Wally West is the only son of Mary West and Rudy West and is the nephew of Barry Allen (aka The Flash) and his wife, Iris West-Allen. Wally grew up in Central City, home of superhero and League member The Flash. He idolized The Flash and when he found out his uncle was The Flash, he begged to be his sidekick. The Flash, of course, declined. One fateful day, Wally found his uncle's notes about the experiment that gave him his superpowers. Being a determined and stubborn thirteen-year-old, he decided to recreate the experiment. He basically ended up blowing up his garage and landing himself in the hospital. However, his powers did manifest, though they aren't to the level of The Flash's. Barry blamed himself for leaving his notes around where little impressionable kids could find them, so he took Wally on as his sidekick. And, thus, Kid Flash was born.

At some point between then and the beginning of the series proper, he met up with other mentors and their sidekicks. He had met Aqualad, protegee of Aquaman (a League member and king of Atlantis). He also met Speedy (later Red Arrow), sidekick to Green Arrow (another member of the League). He met and befriended Robin, partner to Batman (the current leader of the League). He and Robin exchanged secret identities. It wasn't too big of a deal for Wally-- he and Barry are a little freer with their secret identities than Batman and Robin. Being told Robin's secret identity is an example of the level of trust and loyalty they share.

The series starts with each set of mentors and sidekicks taking down various ice-based villains in various different locations. Wally and The Flash take out Captain Cold in Central City. Wally, frustrated at Barry's seeming slowness at finishing the battle, charges Captain Cold and knocks him out (cold hurhur). He begs The Flash to hurry up-- today's the day!

Despite being speedsters, they somehow end up in Washington, D.C. last. It was the day for the four sidekicks-- Aqualad, Robin, Kid Flash, and Speedy-- to take their first steps toward becoming full-blown League members. The Justice League is an organization comprised of individuals with either superpowers (super speed, being Superman) or special skills (such as archery or, well, being Batman). They work together to take down threats that cannot be taken down without assistance. It's highly organized and known to the public. As such, the sidekicks were excited-- it was a rite of passage both as superheroes and as protegees.

However, Speedy throws a fit when they're let in, saying that this isn't the real League HQ-- the real one is a floating space station called The Watchtower. Batman was less than impressed with Speedy knowing this (as it's a huge secret). Speedy, frustrated with being treated like a child, entreats the other sidekicks to rebel and protest. They don't, though they're frustrated. Speedy stomps out, resigning as Green Arrow's sidekick. A call comes from Superman, a League member, about a fire at Cadmus. However, the League is then called away by Zatara, another League member, to deal with some super villain trying to block out the sun. Since the sun takes precedence over a small fire, they depart, refusing to take the sidekicks along with them. Frustrated, Robin, Aqualad, and Kid Flash decide to investigate the mission the League left for later-- the fire at Cadmus.

Upon investigating Cadmus, the find Superboy, a clone of Superman. They free him but end up getting captured themselves. Stuck in containment pods and on the brink of being cloned and then killed, they beseech Superboy to help them. They convince him to help them by offering to show him the world-- the real world on the surface. Superboy agrees and frees them. They do battle with Desmond, the leader of Project Cadmus, who has hulked out on a super mix of chemicals called Blockbuster. They defeat him, taking the surface building down in the process. The League then shows up, less than impressed with the boys' insubordination. Wally and the others convince the League, Batman specifically, to allow them to work together on a permanent basis.

Batman asks for three days. Meanwhile, Wally takes Superboy home while everything gets sorted out. His parents are rather unsurprised-- they're used to and supportive of Wally's superhero lifestyle. While shopping at the mall, Superboy and Wally encounter the Terror Twins, two ice villains who were causing general mayhem. They try to stop the Twins, but only the arrival of Superman and The Flash scare them away. After being lectured, they return home. On the third day, they're called to Mount Justice. Batman allows them to form a semi-independent team, a covert compliment to the League. They would be trained by Black Canary (a member of the League with the power to scream to a point where she can damage objects around her), overseen by Red Tornado (an android and member of the League), and given missions by Batman. Batman then introduced a new team member: Miss Martian, the niece of Martian Manhunter (another League member). Wally, of course, ran up to flirt with her, though Robin followed not long after.

The next day, Wally, Robin, and Aqualad meet up and decide to investigate assassinations as a teambuilding exercise. They decide to protect CEO Selena Gonzalez. However, they are outgunned and outsmarted by assassins Black Spider and Hook.

A week or so later, the Team tries to persuade Red Arrow, formerly Green Arrow's sidekick Speedy, to return to the team. He refuses. A few days after that, they encounter Mister Twister, who is terrorizing Happy Harbor. Happy Harbor is the town in which their secret base, Mount Justice, is located. In any case, with the cunning of Miss Martian and Wally's ability to generate tornadoes, they take him down. A few days after that, they have a campout where everyone (except Robin) reveal their backstories. Wally had initially meant it to be just him and Miss Martian but, well, that didn't work out. I'd say better luck next time, but his luck with Miss M doesn't improve.

Their next mission to Santa Prisca, an island in the Caribbean, illustrates how little the Team really acts like a team. Wally and Robin bicker over who should be the leader-- Wally says he's older and Robin retorts that he's more experienced. However, Robin tends to rush off during the mission without telling anyone where he's going or what he's doing. Wally is little better: he acts impulsively without necessarily stopping to think about tactics. Upon infiltrating a facility on the island, Wally and Robin find that a criminal organization has created a super enhanced formula combining both Blockbuster and Venom, both of which enhance someone's physical skill, and called it Kobra Venom. However, the Team ends up being trapped, having been betrayed by their tenuously-trusted guide Bane. The Team finally elects a leader unanimously: Aqualad, whose even temper and cool head is recognized by both Wally and Robin. They successfully complete the recon mission, but Robin blows up the factory to destroy the Kobra Venom hybrid formula. Batman was less than impressed.

The next mission pits the Team against Psycho-Pirate and Atomic Skull, who were stealing plutonium. The most important part of this mission is that it revealed the insecurities of the various Team members. Wally's insecurities about his powers' limitations and his general sense of inferiority and uselessness are brought to life. His metabolism pushes the hallucinogen Psycho-Pirate had infused the Team with and he and the team are able to take him down.

He then trains Black Canary, combat instructor for the Team. When she asks for volunteers, he's eager to wow her with his skill. Unfortunately, he wows her with his skill for landing on his butt once she easily takes him down. Robin, like a true bro, laughs at him and teases him for flirting with the teacher. They're then called to guard a convoy carrying the disassembled parts of a dangerous robot to be stored away safely. Of course something goes wrong and the parts end up in the hands of Doctor Ivo, a mechanical genius. He sets the robot, Amazo, on the city. The team chases it to Gotham where they take it down in, funnily enough, Robin's school (though he doesn't tell anyone because secret identity). The team is narrowly saved by an arrow shooting through the window at a critical time. They're able to trick Amazo, who absorbs others' powers, into making a critical mistake, destroying the android. Ivo is taken into custody. Despite evidence to the contrary, Wally firmly believes the arrow came from Red Arrow. He deeply believes Red Arrow is still on their side and is still their friend, in spite of their differences.

Soon after, Artemis (who is later revealed to be the person who shot the mystery arrow) joins the Team. Wally, rather than being flirtatious, is suspicious and borderline hostile toward her. Artemis, supposedly Green Arrow's niece, is an archer and Wally felt as if she was trying to replace his friend, Red Arrow (also an archer). Not long after, Red Arrow shows up and asks the Team to help him. He rescued a scientist named Serling Roquette. She'd been forced to create a computer virus that can literally eat through material and steal data. It had hit the University of Miami's technology lab. She was creating an antidote, but needed protection from her former captors. This was the Team's first mission with Artemis on board. It proved to be a success, though, unbeknownst to the Team, one of the assassins sent after Roquette was Artemis' sister, Jade aka Cheshire.

After a brief romp trying to solve an old frame-up of a former Air Force captain, the Team takes on a new mission: to locate the missing Kent Nelson. They're given the key to Nelson's home, the Tower of Fate. Upon entering, Wally makes the best first impression by pretending to lie about believing in magic (in order to impress Miss Martian) and nearly getting everyone dropped into a lava pit by a suspicious sort of spirit of Nelson. They manage to convince him that they're there to help.

It turns out that Klarion, the embodiment of chaos, and a hired hand, Abra Kadabra, had been trying to take the powerful Helmet of Fate. When Nelson is mortally wounded, Wally dons the Helmet and, in so doing, becomes the conduit for the powerful Doctor Fate. Fate uses his powers to send Klarion and Kadabra away. However, Fate refused to relinquish Wally, saying that he needed a host because the world needed Doctor Fate. Nelson said that he would allow his soul to reside in the Helmet until the right wearer was found. With that, Fate relinquished Wally. In spite of this clearly magical (in a bad way) adventure, Wally still firmly believes magic is science all dressed up. However, grateful for Nelson's sacrifice, he keeps the Helmet on his souvenir shelf and attends his funeral.

Later, the Team takes on Clayface. Aqualad's error in judgement resulted in the Team taking time off while Aqualad got his head on straight. So, Wally attends the birthday party of family friend and the first speedster, Jay Garrick.

The next big mission is a covert ops recon mission in the middle eastern country Bialya. They are linked telepathically, thanks to Miss Martian, but Psimon, an enemy psychic, exploits this link when he encounters the camouflaged Miss Martian during her recon mission. He forces her and every other member of the team to forget everything after April. Therefore, they don't even remember there is a Team. Wally first encounters Artemis, whom he drags to safety in an old, decrepit house. She awakens, and he sort of preens for her by saying he's one of the good guys, a hero. She, meanwhile, assumes that her father wants her to kill him as some sort of test. Before Wally can answer, their shelter is bombed, forcing Wally to grab Artemis and run. She tries to fire arrows at their attackers, but he quips that "they have bigger arrows," referring to the tanks pursuing them. They're saved by an unwitting Superboy, who, not having even been conscious six months ago, is driven by base animal instinct. He destroys the tanks before, unbeknownst to Wally and Artemis, he is captured. They eventually run into Robin and Miss Martian. Miss Martian suggests diving into their collective memories to piece together what they've forgotten. Robin and Wally are totally okay with this. (I think Wally even says something like his mind is all hers or something.) Artemis is nervous, but allows it. With their memories pieced together, they found out that Psimon had removed their memories. When they come out of their psychic meeting, Artemis and Wally realize that they're holding hands. They quickly pull their hands away, while Artemis awkwardly covers up their earlier conversation by saying that she had gotten confused by a movie she'd seen the night before. Wally doesn't push her. They search out their missing teammates, Superboy and Aqualad. They find Aqualad severely dehydrated, as an Atlantean and a desert do not mix. They try to take him back to the bioship, but Miss Martian, sensing Superboy in pain, flies off to rescue him. This leaves the rest of the Team to haul Aqualad back to the bioship. Miss Martian rescues Superboy and the sentient robot Sphere (which is a sphere. Don't let Superboy name anything) while mind blasting Psimon into infinity.

There's a thing with the zoo and Kobra, one of the Bad Guys, being crazy but it doesn't sound all that important so let's move on.

The Team is enjoying a normal day. Superboy and Miss Martian are flirting so obviously and Wally doesn't notice. At all. And then the Cave is attacked by two androids-- Red Inferno and Red Torpedo, the "sister" and "brother" of Red Tornado. They've been programmed to take out the Team and bring Red Tornado back with them. Wally, Superboy, Miss Martian, and Aqualad are taken prisoner. Luckily, Artemis and Robin appear later and, with Wally's coaching via two-way batarang radio (they legit have a batarang for every occasion), they create an electromagnetic pulse that temporarily disables the androids. Thank you, love of science. Anyway, the two androids plus Red Tornado get away. Because of this, Red Tornado seems to be a traitor. It doesn't help that, when the League shows up to help the Team, Superboy hears Aqualad telling Batman that there is a mole on the Team. Superboy flies into a rage and the Team's unity starts to fall apart.

They demand to know more about Red Tornado and his supposed treachery. Having heard that there is a mole on the team, they suspect it was Red Tornado all along and they want to confront him. Batman tells them that it's a League issue and instead sends them on a mission to India. Convinced it's a distraction from Red Tornado and doubtful of Aqualad's trustworthiness, they depart on the mission feeling less than enthused. Upon arriving in India, they refuse to obey Aqualad's orders. Wally leaves with Robin, and the rest of the Team splits up too. Robin and Wally are attacked by gigantic birds, obviously genetically enhanced. Aqualad finally gets in contact with Miss Martian and request a psychic link with the rest of the team. He tells them to obey his orders one last time and that he will step down after this mission if they want. So the team pulls together and manages to break into the bad guys' secret lair. They rescue Captain Marvel, the League member who had accompanied them on this mission and had been captured, and confront the masterminds: the Brian (a literal brain) and Monsieur Mallah (a super intelligent gorilla with a French accent. I cannot make this up). They get away, but the Team learns of the experiments using what can only be assumed to be Kobra Venom and the existence of mind control collars capable of controlling at least animals. Upon returning to the bioship, they unanimously decide to keep Aqualad on as their leader.

A few days later, plant monsters start attacking major cities around the world. This is a play for attention by the so-called Injustice League, containing members like Batman's foes the Joker and Poison Ivy. The League decides to take out the plant monsters. Wally protests at first because he thought the League was leaving them out again, though his protest are quickly quelled when Artemis explained that they were obviously going after the Injustice League themselves. The League's magician, Zatara, manages to locate the source of the plant monsters. The Team departs for Louisiana. At first, they manage to hold their own against the Injustice League, and Robin and Miss Martian manage to destroy the "antenna" that controls the plant monsters. However, they're soon overwhelmed and only Aqualad donning the Helmet of Fate (which was plan B) managed to hold off the Injustice League until the Justice League could show up and help. Surprisingly, Doctor Fate relinquished Aqualad at the behest of the spirit of Kent Nelson. Wally had been shocked and distraught at Aqualad's use of the helmet, having been trapped in it himself. He was extremely relieved at Aqualad's release but upset that he'd decided to use it.

Not long after the defeat of the Injustice League, the aforementioned magician, Zatara, decides to introduce his daughter to the Team. For once, Wally doesn't flirt with the new girl, seeing Robin dash forward to impress himself and uncharacteristically stumbling over his words. Seeing his friend a little smitten with her, he keeps his distance. (That and supposedly she's a little too young for him even though she's only a little less than two years his junior. I guess he likes ~older ladies~). Anyway, they decide to give her a tour of Mount Justice so as to get away from the adults and make a break for it-- they want to find out the truth behind Red Tornado's supposed betrayal. Zatanna convinces the Team to "kidnap" her and they depart from the Cave. Robin suggests that Batman has probably looked in all the logical places, and they need something illogical and nonsensical if they want to make any headway. And the entire team turns to resident not-always-full-of-great-ideas Wally West. He suggests they talk to Professor Ivo, since he was the primary competitor of Red Tornado's creator, T.O. Morrow. If anyone would keep close tabs on Morrow, it would be his competitor. This is generally the kind of sideways logic Wally has and, in this case, it works beautifully. They find T.O. Morrow's hideout and confront Red Tornado, who tries a ruse to protect the team from his new "sibling," Red Volcano. He'd been built to be heartless and inhuman, unlike his siblings. Red Volcano saw through the ruse and Red Tornado was forced to retreat and beseech his other siblings for help. Meanwhile, the Team was left to face off with the overwhemlingly strong android. Wally tries to rush it when Red Volcano tries to seize Artemis; he fails, but with Zatanna's help, he is able to launch a slightly more successful attack with her magical duplicates of him. However, only the arrival of Red Tornado and the other androids, Red Torpedo and Red Inferno, ended the battle. Red Volcano was destroyed by lava, and, unfortunately, Torpedo and Inferno were destroyed too. Wally manages to save Red Tornado before he's completely destroyed. The volcano, which was T.O. Morrow's base, is threatening to blow and take out probably all of North America. With Wally's scientific know-how, they're able to avert the disaster. Now aware of Red Tornado's true motivation-- to protect the Team-- they patch up their relationship with him.

Are you still reading this? If so, you are a trooper. Young Justice is a little...involved.

Anyway, let's keep going with the character development train toot toot. So the next big event was a psychic training session in which the Team was put under by Martian Manhunter so they can simulate a mission. All was going well until Artemis was "killed." Upset, Miss Martian subconsciously took control of the simulation and everyone forgot it was just a simulation. Wally took Artemis' death especially hard, worrying about her far more than himself and hoping that the beam that destroyed her was a simple Zeta beam, that is, it just teleported her somewhere else. Things went from bad to worse as aliens invaded and started taking over. The Team fell one by one. They lost their leader and Robin took over. Upon confirmation from Miss Martian that their teammates were actually dead and not simply somewhere else, Wally became obviously despondent. (She knew because she had been psychically linked with Superboy when he "died.") Still, they carried on with their mission, rallied by Robin. The finale came when Robin set up an explosive to take out the alien mothership. The doors slammed closed however and Robin told Martian Manhunter to take Miss Martian to safety, promising to follow after. Wally, who was trapped with Robin, didn't yell or blame Robin at all. He simply stood silently as he and Robin were "killed" by the blast. Throughout this mission, he proved his loyalty by putting himself in harm's way for both Robin's and the Team's sake. Fortunately, once Martian Manhunter came to his senses, he "killed" Miss Martian in order to startle her "awake." The illusion broken, the Team woke up again in the real world. Batman told them that the training had gone awry and the mission was meant to be impossible to complete from the start. Everyone was mentally scarred forever. And so.

They all had a therapy session with Black Canary, who is apparently also a gifted therapist. During his session, Black Canary tried to get his true feelings out of him. Wally said he was perfectly fine and said he'd rather talk about her, babe. She then said "oh, so you weren't even bothered by Artemis' death?" These were apparently the magic words to get his attention. He denies it, she calls out his denial, and he says he's fine being in denial. As such, he's not entirely aware of or perhaps simply not ready to accept his feelings for Artemis, with whom he'd had such a rocky start.

Then Halloween happened. He, Miss Martian, and Superboy went to the Halloween party at Happy Harbor High, Miss M's and Superboy's high school. They exposed a guy who was being silly and doing a hoax about Martians invading and stuff. So the three of them played a prank on the kid by convincing him that Martians really were invading. Lulz were had.

Lulz were not had, however, when a gang of rogue magicians, led by the Lord of Chaos (Klarion, who'd bothered them before during the Helmet of Fate incident), split the world into a world for kids and a world for adults. Wally and a few of the other set about rescuing kids in distress. Then he, Robin, and Aqualad broadcast a message to the kids of the world, telling each other to keep calm and help each other out. In this way, we see Wally in a serious capacity. Also we see that he has some pull as a well-known sidekick (even if no one can ever get his name right). The Team finally pinpoints the source of the disturbance and, aided by Captain Marvel, they go after Klarion. It turns out that Captain Marvel is a kid who transforms into an adult, so he can jump from world to world to help coordinate an attack in both worlds. Aware that the crystal stuck in the magic circle Klarion and the other magicians had created, they work tirelessly to reach it. However, nothing works. Wally can batter himself against the barrier as often as he likes, but he doesn't give. Zatanna, having overheard Aqualad and Wally mentioning the Helmet of Fate as a kind of last resort, summons it and puts it on, much to Wally's horror. She's taken over and manages to bind Klarion enough for Wally to grab the crystal. The worlds merge together, but no amount of pleading will make Fate release Zatanna. It's not until her father, Zatara, promises to don the helmet in her place that she is released. Zatara is permanently taken over by the helmet. Zatanna, broken-hearted, is comforted by Wally and the others. Having been in the helmet before, Wally feels a pang of sympathy for both Zatanna and Zatara in a way that few others could.

A few days later, Wally has a birthday! It starts out being the best birthday ever. School declares a snow day, his mom makes his favorite breakfast (big heaping piles of everything) and his friends throw him a "surprise" party at the Cave (which he was really not surprised about-- he'd been very not subtle about wanting one). He keeps relentlessly flirting with Miss Martian until Artemis tells him that she's taken. His face falls: he really didn't notice. She hadn't rebuffed him, so he'd assumed she was equally into him! His brooding was cut short, however, when Batman contacts the Team with a mission. They were to help the League take down a series of ice fortresses that had popped up. Wally was stoked-- a Team-League teamup was a fantastic birthday present. His hopes were dashed, however, when Batman tasked him with delivering a donor heart from Boston to Seattle. The highways were jammed, planes were grounded, and the Zeta tubes (capable of teleportation) were non-operational. Upset, he asked who the heart was for. Batman rebukes him for his callousness and he apologizes. Less than excited, he leaves for Boston.

Upon arriving at the hospital to pick up the heart, he flirts with the highly attractive woman in charge. She simply rebukes him and chastises him when he jokes about pizza delivery (she misunderstood-- he was jokingly asking for a pizza to be delivered to him, not comparing delivering the heart to delivering a pizza). He dashes off, having only four hours to deliver the heart cross-country before it is no longer viable. Overcoming obstacles like gridlocked traffic and tempting food, he continues his journey. Still, he's upset that he can't join in the team-up: he finds his task mundane in comparison. Eventually, he runs into big bad Vandal Savage, who is intent on causing enough of a fuss to distract Wally from his task. It eats up about fifteen minutes of his time before he remembers he's on a time limit. Wally pushes it, hoping to make it in time so he can still participate in the team-up. However, when he arrives at the hospital, he's informed that the little girl the heart was destined for had died fifteen minutes prior. Crushed that his short detour literally meant life or death, he handed the heart over. The doctor assured him that the heart would go to another person. Defeated, he sat in the hospital. In spite of the broadcasts about the League taking down the ice fortresses, he can't bring himself to think of anything but the little girl. Suddenly, two doctors rush out, inquiring about the heart. Wally had been tricked! The man who'd taken the heart worked for Count Vertigo. Count Vertigo is the uncle of Queen Perdita, the ruler of Vlatava. He conspired to take the heart, effectively killing the young queen it was destined for. It would be simple and easy. Or so he thought. Wally pursued the man who'd duped him. He took down a few thugs before Count Vertigo's power to use psychic force to slow his enemies negated Wally's powers. On the ground and hardly able to move, Wally attempted to defend the heart he'd been entrusted with. While Vertigo monologued, Wally was able to slide the heart away on a patch of ice (mind you, the heart is in a container. Otherwise ew). This bit of cunning distracts Vertigo enough for Wally to retrieve the heart and run. He's so intent on his mission that he crashes right though the glass sliding doors of the hospital. He hands the heart over before collapsing.

When he awakens, Vertigo is creeping on him and then starts to monologue about how awesome his plan was and how he committed regicide so neatly. After all, the queen had died on the operating table. His nefarious scheme turned out to be unnecessary. Except Wally had tricked him. The curtain is pulled aside, and Queen Perdita is sitting there with a tape recorder. She strips him of his diplomatic immunity, allowing him to be arrested and imprisoned in the States. He's dragged off to prison where he makes new friends except not really. He's a pompous jerk. Anyway, the queen thanks Wally and offers him a family heirloom-- the sword Vertigo was going to stab Wally with-- as a souvenir. He declines, saying there was something else he had in mind. Cut back to Mount Justice, where he's setting the container that held the heart on his souvenir shelf. Although Robin congratulates him on saving the queen and therefore the country, Wally can only think that he's saved a little girl and cherishes her smile much more than any praise he got by completing the mission so successfully.

Then they go on a super secret mission to Qurac, neighboring country to Bialya, to find out what was up with the beloved president. He'd decided to unite his country with the neighboring Bialya, controlled by the wicked Queen Bee. Batman sent the Team to investigate. They encounter Garfield and Marie Logan after saving them from a stampede. Things went south, leading to Garfield being seriously hurt and needing a blood transfusion courtesy Miss Martian. The mission wasn't a total loss: they found that Psimon was pulling the strings on Queen Bee's behalf and took him out. Well, Miss Martian did. And then they staged a big scene in which Miss Martian pretended to be Queen Bee. And so the union of the two countries was thwarted.

Their next mission involved following up on a sighting of Sportsmaster, a big bad they'd encountered several times before. Red Arrow insisted on going as did Artemis. Wally chalked this up to Artemis feeling the need to prove herself and assured her that, despite having another archer on the team, she'd proven herself to him and Red Arrow wasn't replacing her in the slightest. Unfortunately, the mission went south. Desperate to hide the fact that Sportsmaster was her father and Cheshire was her sister, Artemis misled the team. They blamed her for the failed mission. Wally defended her at first before finding out that she'd purposefully sent a decoy tracker to keep the team away from Sportsmaster. Not knowing her motivations and deeply hurt at her betrayal, Wally coldly rebuked her.

He doesn't actually go on the next mission, but he calls Robin to inquire about his location. Hearing Robin flat out lie to him (the Team was on an unauthorized mission), he casually coaxes the truth out of him. Upon finding out it has to do with Robin's tragic past (which he is of course aware of), he asks why he didn't get taken along. He understood Robin's feelings and therefore would be perfect. Robin worried that Wally would've questioned his objectivity and Wally points out that that is what best friends are for.

Not long after, the League initiates new members into their fold, including Red Arrow. While watching the ceremony, Robin picks up a message from the League computer. It turns out a plane went down under suspicious circumstances. The Team, plus new member Rocket, depart for the crash site. It turns out that Jade aka Cheshire was on board. However, they found no bodies and it turned out to be an ambush. The Team overcame the baddies, however, and took the suspicious loot back to Batman-- some weird alien tentacle thing. This turned out to be a Bad Idea. In addition, the three moles were called to betray the Team. Rather than continue to work for their blackmailers, Superboy, Miss Martian, and Artemis come clean about their duplicity. The Team generally takes it well, and Wally again supports Artemis when she tells the Team about her family's criminal past. This is a marked change from his first encounter with Artemis: she has earned his trust to the point where it is practically unshakeable.

However, the real mole was still at large. Roy, a sleeper agent for the baddies (aka The Light), infected all of the League with "chips" created from this magical alien tentacle. It turns out that this is more or less what the baddies were up to all season. After infecting the League and putting them under the control of Vandal Savage and Klarion, Red Arrow awakens. Appalled at what he's done, he escapes from the League and goes into hiding. The Team, having been informed of Red Arrow's treachery by Batman, have a hard time coping. When Batman leaves, Aqualad determines that they should find Red Arrow. He was one of them, sleeper agent or not. Everyone agrees. But before they could leave, they find that Red Tornado had suddenly shut down. There was one of those weird chips in his hand. They decide to fix him by transferring his data to a new body, which he conveniently had lying around (literally). He informs them that the League is possessed. They duck Black Canary, capture her, and set off.

Basically, they reverse-engineer the chip, infiltrate the Watchtower, and save the League by implanting the cure in them. While fighting their mentors, Wally was astute enough to observe that they were being controlled: their mentors could've easily thrashed them but were restricted by the capability of their puppeteer. Once the League was free and Savage and Klarion disappeared to wherever, the kids celebrated the new year with kisses. Wally finally got over his denial, lifted Artemis into his arms, and planted one on her. Finally.

Personality:

Wally's the kind of person you've probably met at least once in your life: the down-to-earth class clown type who sometimes gets way ahead of himself. He's the Team's go-to guy for bad ideas (he did blow his garage up to get superpowers). He can be impulsive both in actions and in conversations. This probably comes at least partially from his nature as a speedster-- there's a sense of frustration that comes with living in a world that moves so slowly to you. Of course, this impulsiveness sometimes, though not always, gets him in trouble. He's hopelessly flirtatious, hitting on pretty much everyone from Miss Martian to Black Canary. Unfortunately, he can't always tell what the object of his flirtation is feeling; he legitimately thought Miss Martian was into him, despite her very obviously being with Superboy. It seriously takes Artemis flat-out telling him for him to notice.

Speaking of noticing, he's not always the best at picking up social subtleties, just as he's not always good at being subtle in general. This makes him straightforward in nature and not given to being duplicitous. For instance, Black Canary tells him that he's in denial. Instead of denying this accusation of denial, he simply says that he's okay with it. He's one of the few characters who doesn't keep anything from the Team. He's open about his secret identity to the point where he takes Superboy home to live with him while Batman debates about whether to let the Team carry on after the Cadmus incident.

Wally's a compassionate person, even if it's not always obvious beneath his lack of subtlety and impulsive nature. During one episode, he ran cross-country to deliver a heart to a young girl (who turned out to be a queen and there was this whole assassination plot that Wally had to foil). Despite essentially preventing an assassination that would've thrown an entire country into political chaos (and would've put a complete jerkass into power), he's more proud at having saved the little queen. "Seeing that little girl smile" was his reward. The little girl, notice, not the queen. He saw her as an individual, not as the head of a country.

More than anything, Wally is loyal. He's faithfully kept Robin's secret identity a secret. He even gets fake blown up with Robin during a training simulation that, through a series of strange events, they thought was real. They that that deep a bromance. He's dedicated to the Team, always giving his all and stubbornly seeing things through until the end. Once his loyalty is earned, it's hard (and painful) for it to be broken. When Artemis seems to have betrayed the Team on one mission, he flatly tells her that she'd betrayed them rather than yelling or being overly expressive, as he can often be. She regained his loyalty in the end but that brief break in loyalty definitely showed that he can be cold and distant when he feels betrayed.

He is also a Man of Science-- despite being trapped in the magical Helmet of Fate, he still refuses to believe in magic. He stubbornly sticks to his belief that science is the root of everything and offers the only real, rational explanation to anything. He can be rather stubborn in this belief. Then again, he can be a little stubborn in general, he's just very obviously especially stubborn in this regard.

Underneath his outgoing and confident nature is someone who is a little insecure. The fact that he'll never quite be the same as the Flash in terms of raw power bothers him. Although he does nothing to hide his huge appetite (which would be rather impossible to hide), it secretly frustrates him and occasionally makes him self-conscious.

Essentially, Wally is a friendly, loyal, and inclined to joke and flirt almost constantly. He's expressive, stubborn, and compassionate. He's about as subtle as a train crashing into a china shop and tact isn't necessarily his strongest point, but he rarely means to make anyone feel bad.

Have you read up on how the game works?: Yep! The Guide uses FlamingFerret. Wally can earn money through missions, pickpocketing (but he wouldn't), and being an entrepreneur and starting his own business. A speedy delivery service, maybe?

1st person sample:

[The video clicks on to reveal a red headed teenager in a bright yellow spandex (?) suit looking understandably very distraught.]

Okay, I'm new to the whole being-in-space thing but I'm 99% sure I did not use some super secret signal to hitch a ride on a gigantic spaceship. And, last I checked, earth was still there. I was in space, I could see it. We stopped the bad guys and saved the day. Right?

And they stuck a fish in my ear. Dude, that's just gross and kind of violating. What kind of ship did I not-hitchhike myself onto?

3rd person sample:

Wally West led a thrilling life of crime-fighting and world-saving. He'd seen it all-- a world inside a not-magic helmet, a gigantic talking gorilla, people who can shoot ice out of the fingertips. Heck, his best friends included an Atlantean, a Martian, and a half-Kryptonian. He should be used to the weird and unexpected.

Unless, apparently, that "weird and unexpected" translated to "a gigantic spaceship."

Especially when he happens to wake up next to a beach in space with a weird...book communicator thing in his lap. Don't Panic. Yeah, easier said than done, book-communicator-thing. Okay, okay, maybe this is just like what happened in Bialya. They were on a mission, they got mind blasted again and...

And that doesn't make this any better.

Wally takes a few deep breaths. He's a superhero. He's got to pull himself together, find the others, and figure out what's going on. Okay. He's got this.

He dashes off at top speed, trying to get the layout of where he was and looking for familiar faces, good or bad. After about fifteen minutes of dashing along the S.S. Thor, he has a general idea of what the layout is, but he hasn't found anyone he knows. While he thinks of another strategy, he toys with the book in his hand.

The book! Duh, he should've looked at that first! He opens it up and...it's a communicator? Maybe he should give this a shot.

Questions?: Are you sure the S.S. Thor has enough food for this guy? Because seriously.
